Past Perfect Tense Passive Voice Exercises with Answers

 In this post, we will learn how to change the  Past Perfect Tense active voice into a passive voice. Through these examples, you will be able to understand the rules for changing the active voice of the Past Perfect Tense into a passive voice.

Structure of Active and Passive Voice in Past Perfect Tense


Active Voice


Subject +had  +  past participle (V3)+ object


Passive Voice


Object  +  had +been+ past participle (V3)+ by+ subject

 

Rules for changing from Active to Passive


1.  Identify the object in the active sentence and make it the subject of the passive sentence.

2.  Use ‘had’ in the passive

3.  Use ‘been’ and past participle (V3)

4.  Write the ‘subject’ in the end of passive after ‘by’ .

5.  Unnecessary subjects can be omitted.


Examples Active -Passive

 

     1.  She had written a letter.

     P.V. – A letter had been written by her.


      2.             They had eaten apples.

P.V. – Apples had been eaten by them.


       3.        He had sung a song.

P.V. – A song had been sung by him.


       4.      The teacher had taught English.

P.V. -English had been taught by the teacher.


        5.       She had cooked food.

P.V. – Food had been cooked by her.


       6.         We had watched the movie.

P.V. – The Movie had been watched by us.


       7.         He had watered the plants.

P.V. – The plants had been  watered by him.


        8.       She had washed the clothes.

P.V. – The clothes had been washed by her.


       9.        They had cleaned the house.

P.V. – The house had been cleaned by them.


    10.             The shopkeeper had sold fruits.

P.V. – Fruits had been sold by the shopkeeper.


     11.        The students had learnt the lessons.

P.V. -The lessons had been learnt by the students.


     12.           He had checked emails.

P.V. – Emails  had been checked by him.


     13.           My mother had cooked cake.

P.V. – Cake had been cooked by my mother.


     14.           My father had read newspaper.

P.V. – Newspaper had been read by my father.


     15.           She had designed a website.

P.V. – A website had been designed by her.


     16.           The farmer had grown crops.

P.V. – Crops had been grown by the farmer.


     17.            The dog had chased the cat.

P.V. – The cat had been chased by the dog.


     18.            She had decorated the room.

P.V. – The room had been decorated by her.


     19.            He had solved puzzles.

P.V. – Puzzles had been solved by him.


     20.           They had played football.

P.V. – Football had been  played by them.

 

     21.            I had written a letter.

P.V. – A letter had been written by me.


     22.            John had written an email.

P.V. – An email had been written by John.


 

     23.           The children had flown kites.

P.V. – Kites had been flown by the children.


    24.                The mechanic had fixed the engine.

P.V. – The engine had been fixed by the mechanic.


    25.                The chef had prepared the food.

P.V. – The food had been prepared by the chef.
