Active and Passive Grammar Exercises


In this post, we will explain examples of Active -Passive. If you practice these examples, you can easily change active into passive voice.

 

Active and Passive Grammar Exercises


   1.  She writes a letter every day.

P.V. – A letter is written by her every day.


Explanation – Present simple tense ‘ writes’ changes to ‘ is written’.


     2.  They completed the assignment.

 P.V.- The assignment was completed by them.


Explanation – Past simple tense ‘ completed’ changes to ‘was completed’.


    3.  He will deliver the parcel tomorrow.

P.V.- The parcel will be delivered by him tomorrow.


Explanation – Future simple tense ‘will deliver’ changes to ‘ will be delivered’.


    4.  We are watching the match on TV.

P.V.- The match is being watched by us on TV.


Explanation -Present continuous tense ‘ are watching’ changes to ‘ is being watched’.


    5.  The manager has approved the proposal.

P.V.- The proposal has been approved by the manager.


Explanation -Present perfect tense ‘ has approved’ changes to ‘ has been approved’.


    6.  She washes the clothes every day.

P.V.- The clothes are washed by her every day.


Explanation – Present simple tense ‘ washes’ changes to ‘ are washed’.


    7.  She cleans the kitchen every morning.

P.V.- The kitchen is cleaned by her every morning.


Explanation – Present simple tense ‘ cleans’ changes to ‘ is cleaned’.


    8.  They repaired the chair yesterday.

P.V.- The chair was repaired by them yesterday.


Explanation – Past simple tense ‘ repaired’ changes to ‘ was repaired’.


    9.  The plumber is repairing the leaking pipe.

P.V.- The leaking pipe is being repaired by the plumber.


Explanation – Present continuous tense ‘ is repairing’ changes to is being repaired’.


   10.            The gardener will plant new flowers next week.

P.V.- New flowers will be planted by the gardener next week.


Explanation – Future simple tense ‘ will plant’ changes to ‘will be planted’.


   11.          They have washed all the clothes.

P.V.- All the clothes have been washed by them.


Explanation – Present perfect tense ‘ have washed’ changes to ‘ have been washed’.


   12.                The teacher explains the lesson clearly.

P.V.- The lesson is explained clearly by the teacher


Explanation – Present simple tense ‘ explains’ changes to ‘ is explained’.


    13.                The staff arranged the meeting last Tuesday.

P.V.- The meeting was arranged by the staff last Tuesday.


Explanation – Past simple tense ‘ arranged’ changes to ‘ was arranged’.


    14.                The engineer has designed a new bridge.

P.V.- A new bridge has been designed by the engineer.


Explanation – Present perfect tense ‘ has designed’ changes to ‘has been designed’.


    15.                The company will introduce a new policy.

P.V.- A new policy will be introduced by the company.


Explanation – Future simple tense ‘will introduce’ changes to will be introduced’.


    16.                The poet has written a new poem.

P.V.- A new poem has been written by the poet.


Explanation – Present perfect tense ‘has written’ changes to ‘has been written’.


    17.                They had won the football match.

P.V.- The football match had been won by them.


Explanation – Past perfect tense ‘ had won’ changes to ‘ had been won’.


   18.                Workers are repairing the main road.

P.V.- The main road is being repaired by workers.


Explanation – Present continuous tense ‘ are repairing’ changes to is being repaired’.


    19.                Your father was writing a letter.

P.V.- A letter was being written by your father.


Explanation – Past continuous tense ‘ was writing’ changes to was being written’.


    20.                She could help me.

P.V.- I could be helped by her.


Explanation – Modal + V1 ‘ could help’ changes to ‘ could be helped’.


    21.                You should obey your parents.

P.V.- Your parents should be obeyed by you.


Explanation - Modal + V1 ‘ should obey’ changes to ‘ should  be obeyed’.

 

    22.                She has cooked food for the guests.

P.V.- Food has been cooked by her for the guests.


Explanation – Present perfect tense ‘ has cooked’ changes to has been cooked’.


    23.                I will have taken the B.Ed. degree the next month.

P.V.- The B.Ed. degree will have been taken by me the next month.


Explanation – Future perfect tense ‘ will have taken’ changes to ‘ will have been taken’.


    24.                The boy throws the ball outside.

P.V.- The ball is thrown by the boy outside.


Explanation – Present simple tense ‘ throws’ changes to ‘ is thrown’.


     25.                The student has written a story.

P.V.- A story has been written by the student.


Explanation – Present perfect tense ‘ has written’ changes to ‘ has been written’.
