Today we will learn class 10 physics numericals of chapter
light -Reflection and Refraction. The following question is related to the spherical mirror.
After reading the solution, you can watch the video to
understand the question properly.
An object 2 cm high is placed at a distance of 20 cm in front of a concave mirror of a focal length of 15 cm. Find the position, nature, and height of the image formed.
Given values
Height of object(h)= 2cm
Object distance (u)= -20 cm
Focal length (f)= -15 cm
Image distance(v)=?
Height of image (h’)=?
[focal length of concave mirror is negative]
(i) Position of image
`1/u+ 1/v=1/f`
`1/(-20)+ 1/v=1/(-15)`
`1/v=1/(-15)- 1/20`
`1/v=(-4 +3 )/60`
`1/v=(-1)/60`
`v = -60 cm`
`v = -60 cm`
So image will be formed at a distance of 60 cm from the
(-) sign of v shows that an image formed is real and inverted.
(ii) height of the image
`h^'/h=- v/u`
`h^'/2=- ((-60))/((-20))`
`h^'=-3 ×2= -6 cm`
(-) sign of height of the image shows the image is real and inverted.
