In this topic, you will learn how to identify the type of chemical reaction in an east way.
Generally, you are asked to name or identify the
chemical reaction in the exams.
Identify the type of chemical reaction |
Following this easy method, you can identify a chemical
reaction.
Basically, we will cover the following reactions
1.
Combination
reaction
2.
Decomposition reaction
3.
Displacement reaction
4.
Double displacement reaction
So, these are the basic chemical reactions
Reactants are written on the left-hand side (LHS) and products are written on the right-hand side (RHS)
1. Combination reaction
A + B → AB
(Reactants ) (Product)
Trick – If you
find the sign (+) at LHS and a single product at RHS, then
it is a combination reaction.
2Mg +
O2 → 2MgO
2H2 + O2 →2H2O
Both are combination reactions.
2. Decomposition reaction
AB → A + B
(Reactants) (Product)
Trick – If you find a single reactant at LHS and sign (+)
at RHS, then it is a decomposition reaction.
CaCO3 → CaO + CO2
2KClO3 →2KCl + 3O2
3. Displacement reaction
A + BC → AC
+ B
(Reactants) (Product)
Trick – If you find one element and one
compound (reactants ) with sign (+ ) at LHS
and one element and one compound with sign (+)
at RHS, then it is a displacement
reaction.
Zn + CuSO4 →ZnSO4 + Cu
Fe + CuSO4 →FeSO4 + Cu
4. Double displacement reaction
AB + CD → AD
+ CB
(Reactants) (Product)
Trick – If you find
two compounds (reactants) with sign (+) at LHS
and two compounds with sign (+) at RHS,
then it is a double displacement reaction.
Name the type of chemical reaction represented by the following equation
1.
Ba(OH)2 + 2HBr → BaBr2
+ 2H2O
2.
4Fe + 3O2 →2Fe2O3
3.
2Al + Fe2O3 →Al2O3
+2Fe
4.
NH4Cl →NH3 + HCl
5.
Mg + 2HCl →MgCl2 + H2
