We have studied different types of chemical reactions in Chapter 1 Chemical Reactions and Equations of class 10 science NCERT books.
Chemical reactions are written in the form of
equations. Today we are going to name the types of reactions for the given
chemical equations. These are balanced chemical equations but you should know how to balance chemical equations.
25 Balanced Chemical Equations
Following are the chemical equations with their types
of reactions.
1. Ca(OH)2 + CO2 →CaCO3 + H2O
Ans, - Neutralization reaction
Reason – In this reaction metal oxide(CO2)
which is acidic reacts with a base (Ca(OH)2 ) to give salt and water, so this is a neutralization
reaction.
2. Zn + 2AgNO3 →Zn(NO3)2
+ 2Ag
Ans. Displacement reaction
Reason – Zn is more reactive than Ag so it displaces
Ag and forms Zn(NO3)2.
3. 2Al + 3CuCl2 →2AlCl3
+ 3Cu
Ans – Displacement reaction
4. 2KClO3 →2KCl + 3O2
Ans. – Decomposition reaction
Reason – Complex compound KClO3 breaks into
simpler substances 2KCl & 3O2, so this is a decomposition
reaction.
5. N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3
Ans. – Composition/combination reaction
Reason – Two substances combine to form one compound,
so this is a composition reaction.
6. NH3 + HCl →NH4Cl
Ans. - Composition/combination reaction
Ans.
- Composition/combination reaction
8. AgNO3 + NaCl →AgCl2
+ NaNO3
Ans -Double displacement reaction
Reason – Exchange of ions between AgNO3 &
NaCl takes place.
9. NH4NO2 →2H2O + N2
Ans - Decomposition reaction
10. 2KNO3 →
2KNO2 + O2
Ans. - Decomposition reaction
11. BaCl2 + K2SO4
→BaSO4 +2KCl
Ans.- Double displacement
12. Ba(OH)2 + 2HBr →BaBr2
+ 2H2O
Ans. - Double displacement
13. 2KCN+ H2SO4 →K2SO4
+ 2HCN
Ans. - Double displacement
14. 2Al + 6HCl →2AlCl3 + 3H2
Ans. – Displacement reaction
15. CH4+ 2O2 →CO2
+ 2H2O
Ans.- Redox
reaction
16. 4Fe
+ 3O2 →2Fe2O3
Ans.- Combination reaction
17. 2HgCl2 + SnCl2 →Hg2Cl2
+ SnCl4
Ans.- Redox reaction
Reason – SnCl2 is a reductant and HgCl2 is an oxidant.
18. Al2O3 + 3H2SO4
→Al2(SO4)3 + 3H2O
Ans.- Double displacement reaction
19. Al2(SO4)3+ 6NaOH →2Al(OH)3 + 3Na2SO4
Ans.- Double displacement reaction
20. 2PbO2 + 2H2SO4 →2PbSO4 + 2H2O + O2
Ans.- Redox reaction
21. 2Al + Fe2O3 →Al2O3
+ 2Fe
Ans.- Displacement reaction
22. 2HNO3 +Ca(OH)2
→Ca(NO3)2 + 2H2O
Ans.-
Displacement reaction
23. 2NaOH + H2SO4 →Na2SO4
+ 2H2O
Ans.-
Neutralization reaction
Ans.-
Double displacement reaction
25. BaCl2 + H2SO4
→BaSO4 + 2HCl
Ans
– Double displacement reaction

FAQs
1. Why
the following reaction is not a double displacement reaction?
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 →CaCO3 + H2O
Ans. – In the double displacement reaction, the exchange
of ions takes place between ionic compounds but in the given reaction carbon dioxide
is a covalent compound so there is no
exchange of ions taking place that’s why this is not a double displacement.
