we will go through activity 15.5 class 8 science chapter 15 Some Natural phenomena.   You should also go through activity 15.4 of chapter 15. In this activity 15.5, we will discuss earthquakes, their causes, and their damages.

 Activity

·     Ask your parents about the huge damage to life and property caused by these earthquakes. 

·     Collect a few pictures showing the damage caused by these earthquakes from newspapers and magazines of those days. 

·     Prepare a short report on the suffering of the people during and after the earthquakes. 

 

Observation and explanation 

Earthquake- A sudden shaking or trembling of the earth for a short period of time (a few seconds) is called an earthquake.

Cause of earthquake

Earthquake is caused due to disturbance inside the earth’s crust. there are many plates inside the earth which are called tectonic plates.

These plates continuously move and when these plates collide with each other they cause the shaking of the earth.

Damages caused by earthquakes

1. They can damage dams, bridges, and buildings.

2. Loss of life

3. They can cause floods, landslides, and tsunamis.

 

Conclusion  

Earthquakes cause damage to life and properties.
