we will go through activity 15.1 class 8 science chapter 15 Some Natural phenomena.   You should also go through activity 15.2 of chapter 15. In this activity 15.1, we will learn about the nature of the electric charge and charged bodies.

Activity

 

   ·     Take a used ballpen refill and rub it vigorously with a piece of polythene.

   ·     Bring it close to small pieces of paper.

  ·     Take care not to touch the rubbed end of the refill with your hand or with a metallic object.

  ·     Repeat the activity with small pieces of the dry leaf, husk, and mustard seeds.

  ·     Record your observations.

Observation and explanation

When we rub a ball pen refill with a piece of polythene, it gets charged, and it attracts pieces of paper.

It happens because some friction force is generated during the rubbing process which produces an electrostatic charge to the ballpen refill.

The above activity is repeated with dry leaf, husk, etc and we get the same result.
