Activity 14.2 Class 8 Science Chapter 14 Solution

Activity 14.2 Class 8 Science Chapter Chemical Effects of Electric Current

Today we will discuss activity 14.2 class 8 science chapter 14 chemical effects of electric current. In this, You should also go through activity 14.3 of chapter 14. In this activity 14.2, we will discuss whether liquids like lemon juice or vinegar are good conductors or poor conductors?

You are suggested to study NCERT activity 14.2 class 8 science explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 14.2 class 8 science.

Activity

  ·    Collect a few small plastics or rubber caps of discarded bottles and clean them.

  ·    Pour one teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar into one cap.

  ·    Bring your tester over this cap and let the ends of the tester dip into lemon juice or vinegar.

  ·    Take care that the ends are not more than 1 cm apart but at the same time do not touch each other.

  ·    Does the bulb of the tester glow?

  ·    Does lemon juice or vinegar conduct electricity?

  ·     How would you classify lemon juice or vinegar— a good conductor or a poor conductor?

Observation and explanation

We need a bulb, cell, and connecting wires to make a tester to check the conductivity of liquids like lemon juice or vinegar.

Now we pour some lemon juice into the cap of the bottle and dip the two ends of the tester, we make.

The bulb glows.

Repeat the same activity with vinegar, this time the bulb  glows

So we can find that liquids like lemon juice and vinegar conduct electricity.

Conclusion

This activity shows that liquids conduct electricity.
