Activity 8.1 Class 8 Science
The teacher may show a permanent slide of amoeba and paramecium under a microscope. Alternatively, the teacher can collect pond water ad shoe these organisms by preparing the slides.
The microscopic structure of Paramecium and Amoeba |
Observation and explanation
Under the microscope, we can see the structure of amoeba and paramecium. Both are unicellular organisms.
Amoeba has an irregular (indefinite)shape and we can see
some finger-like projections called pseudopodia (false foot). The structure of
amoeba has main three parts – the cytoplasm, plasma membrane, and nucleus. it also
has other cell organelles like contractile vacuole, mitochondria, Golgi
apparatus, and fat globules.
Paramecium has an ovoid, slipper, or cigar-shaped organism.
It has a definite shape. The structure of paramecium consists mainly of cytoplasm,
plasma membrane, nucleus, and other cell organelles. it has two nuclei.
It has hair-like projections all over the outer
surface which are called cilia.
Conclusion
This activity shows the structures of unicellular organisms
amoeba and paramecium.
