Observation and Explanation
When a metal plate or pan is struck with a stick, it
starts vibrating and produces sound. We can easily hear the sound.
Yes, we can feel the vibration when touching the metal
plate or pan after striking.
When we strike
the plate again and hold it with our hand tightly, we can not hear sound because this
time the plate is not vibrating.
Now we strike the plate again, and it starts vibrating and
producing sound. this time we don’t touch it. When the plate stops producing sound,
we touch it. We cannot feel any vibrations.
Conclusion
This activity shows that a vibrating body or object
produces ‘sound’. Without vibrations, no sound is produced.
