Activity 12.2 Class 8 Science Friction
In this post, you will find NCERT
Science Class 8 Chapter 12Fricton activity 12.2 and after reading this, you can
understand the concept of 'Friction' in daily life.
You are suggested to study NCERT activity 12.2 class 8 science explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 12.2 class 8 science.
Activity 12.2 Class 8 Science
· Tie a string around a brick.
· Pull the brick by a spring balance.
· You need to apply some force.
· Note down the reading on the spring balance when the brick just begins to move.
· It gives you a measure of the force of friction between the surface of the brick and the floor.
· Now wrap a piece of polythene around the brick and repeat the activity.
· Do you observe any difference in the readings of the spring balance in the above two cases?
· What might be the reason for this difference?
· Repeat this activity by wrapping a piece of jute bag around the brick.
· What do you observe?
Activity 12.2 Class 8 Science Chapter 12Solution |
Observation and Explanation
When the brick is pulled on a surface that is
rough, the reading in the spring balance is greater. It so happened because the
force of friction is high on the rough surfaces.
When polythene is wrapped around the brick, the surface
becomes smoother, and the friction force applied is lesser than in the previous
situation.
Now a piece of jute is wrapped around the brick and the brick is pulled. This time reading of spring balance is more than that of the previous
situation.
This activity explains that a rough surface exerts greater
friction force than a smooth surface.
Conclusion
It is concluded through this activity that a rough surface
exerts greater friction force than a smooth surface.
