Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science Chapter 4 Materials: Metals and Non-metals
In this post, you will find NCERT Science Class 8 Chapter 4 Materials: Metals and Non-metals Activity solutions. Class 8 science chapter 4 consists of NCERT Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science Explanation with a conclusion.
NCERT Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science Explanation with a conclusion
You are suggested to study NCERT activity 4.8 class 8 science explanation
with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 4.8
class 8 science.
Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science
· Take five 100mL beakers and label them A, B, C, D and E.
· Take about 50mL of water in each beaker.
· Dissolve in each beaker a teaspoonful of each substance as shown in the figure.
· Keep the beakers undisturbed for some time.
· Record your observations in your notebook.
Procedure of Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science
· We take five 100 mL beakers and label them A, B, C, D and E.
· Take copper sulphate solution in beakers A and B.
· Take zinc sulphate solution in beaker C, iron sulphate solution in beaker D and zinc sulphate solution in beaker E.
· Now add Zinc granules in beaker A, iron fillings in beaker B, copper turnings in beakers C and D and iron nails in beaker E.
Observation of Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science
We notice a change in colour in beakers A and B but
there is no change in the colour of solutions in beakers C, D and E.
Explanation of Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science
In beaker A, Zinc displaces copper from the copper sulphate
solution and forms Zinc sulphate. The Colour of the solution gets faded.
In beaker B, iron displaces copper from the copper sulphate
solution and forms iron sulphate. The Colour of the solution gets faded.
Fe + CuSO4
→ FeSO4 + Cu
So, in the
above reactions, Zinc and iron displace copper from the copper sulphate solution,
because Zinc and iron are more reactive than copper.
In beakers C, D and E, no reaction takes place.
Following is the reactivity series of given metals
Zn > Fe
> Cu
Conclusion of Activity 4.8 Class 8 Science
This activity shows the reactivity of metals and displacement
reaction.
