In this post, you will find NCERT
Science Class 8 Chapter 4 Materials: Metals and Non-metals Activity solutions. Class 8 science chapter 4
consists of NCERT Activity 4.7
Class 8 Science Explanation with a conclusion.
NCERT Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science Explanation with a conclusion
You are suggested to study NCERT activity 4.7 class 8 science explanation
with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 4.7
class 8 science.
Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science
· Prepare
a fresh solution of sodium hydroxide in a test tube by dissolving 3-4 pellets
of it in 5 mL of water.
· Drop
a piece of aluminium foil into it.
· Bring
a burning matchstick near the mouth of the test tube.
· Observe
carefully.
Precaution: This activity should be demonstrated by the teacher. During
the preparation of the sodium hydroxide solution, care should be taken that pellets
of sodium hydroxide are handled with a plastic spatula.
Observation of Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science
When aluminium foil is dropped into dil. sodium hydroxide solutions, a colourless gas is evolved.
Explanation of Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science
Metals react with bases to
produce hydroxides and hydrogen gas is evolved.
Metal + base → Metal hydroxide + Hydrogen ↑
When aluminium foil is dropped
into sodium hydroxide solution, aluminium displaces sodium from sodium hydroxide
and forms aluminium hydroxide and hydrogen gas evolves.
Hydrogen gas is highly inflammable
so it burns with a pop sound when a burning matchstick is near the test tube.
Conclusion of Activity 4.7 Class 8 Science
This activity shows the
reaction between metals and bases.
