Activity 11.4 Class 9 Science
· Lift
an object up. Work is done by the force exerted by you on the object. The
object moves upwards. The force you exerted is in the direction of
displacement. However, there is the force of gravity acting on the object.
· Which
one of these forces is doing positive work?
· Which
one is doing negative work?
· Give
reason.

Observation and explanation of activity 11.4 class 9 science
When we lift an object upward, a vertical force is
exerted on it in the direction of displacement and at the same time force of
gravity is acting on it in the downward direction.
We know that – (i) when a force acts opposite to the
direction of displacement, then work done is negative.
(ii). when force acting on the object is in the
direction of displacement, then work done is positive.
So the force exerted in lifting the object is doing
positive work and work done by gravity is negative.
Conclusion of activity 11.4 class 9 science
This activity 11.4 class 9 science explains positive and negative work.
