· Take
a toy car. Wind it using its key.
· Place
the car on the ground.
· Did
it move?

where did it acquire energy?
· Does
the energy acquired depend on the number of windings?
· How
can you test this?
Activity 11.10 Class 9 Science Chapter 11 Work and Energy |
Observation of activity 11.10 class 9 science
When the car is winded by its key and placed on the
ground, it starts moving.
Explanation of activity 11.10 class 9 science
When the toy car is wound by its key, the elastic potential
energy is stored in the coiled spring and when the car is placed on the ground, the potential energy is converted into
kinetic energy.
The energy acquired by the toy car depends on the number
of windings of the spring. We can test this as follows-
(i)
We give five windings to the spring of the
toy car and measure the distance covered by it.
(ii)
Now we give ten windings to the spring and
measure the distance covered by it.
We can notice that in the second situation, the car covers
more distance. So it is clear it possesses more energy in it.
Conclusion of
activity 11.10 class 9 science
This activity explains that Potential energy is stored due to work done on the object and this potential energy is converted into kinetic
energy.
