Activity 9.3 Class 9 Science
· Place
a water-filled tumbler on a tray.
· Hold
the tray and turn around as fast as you can.
· We
observe that the water spills, why?
Observation Activity 9.3 Class 9 Science
Water in the tumbler spills when we turn around the
tray.
Explanation Activity 9.3 Class 9 Science
When we turn around the tray, it creates a force on
the tumbler as well, so the glass also moves around. but water in the tumbler tends
to remain in the rest position due to the inertia of rest. So water spills out.
This happens because frictional force is produced between the tray surface and the surface of the
tumbler, so the tumbler moves. But the frictional force between the tumbler and the water
is less or absent, that’s why there is no movement in the water. Water tends to remain
in the rest position and spills out.
Conclusion Activity 9.3 Class 9 Science
This activity also explains the Law of inertia as activities
9.1 and 9.1 does.
