Activity 8.9 Class 9 Science

   ·     The times of arrival and departure of a train at three stations A, B, and C and the distance of stations B and C from station A are given in the table.

   ·     Plot and interpret the distance-time graph for the train assuming that its motion between any two stations is uniform.

Activity 8.9 Class 9 Science Explanation
Distance-time graph

According to the distance-time graph

On the basis of the given data, we plot a distance graph.

i.   O to A portion  – The train is standing at the station from 8.00 to 8.15

ii.   A to P portion  – The train moves with uniform speed from A to B from 8.15 to 11.15 and it reaches station B at a distance of 120km from A.

iii.    P to Q portion – the train at rest from 11.15 to 11.30 at station B.

iv.  Q to R portion  – from 11.30 to 13.00 the train moves uniformly from station B to station C and covers a distance of (180-120)=60km.

v.     R to S portion - from 13.00 to 13.15 it remains at rest at station C

       Velocity during from A to  B= `v_1=\ \frac{120km}{3h}\ =40\frac{Km}{h}`

Velocity during form B to C= `v_2=\ \frac{60km}{1.5h}\ =40\frac{Km}{h}`

        So,     `\v_1=v_2`

Activity 8.9 Class 9 Science Conclusion

This activity infers that the distance-time graph shows that motion is uniform.
