chapter 8 explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based
on the activity 8.11 class 9 science.
Activity 8.11 Class 9 Science
· Take a piece of thread and tie a small piece of
stone at one of its ends. move the stone to describe a circular path with
constant speed by holding the thread at the other end as shown in the figure.
· Now, let the stone go by releasing the thread.
· Can
you tell the direction in which the stone moves after it is released?
· By
repeating the activity a few times and releasing the stone at different positions
of the circular path. Check whether the direction in which the stone moves remain
the same or not.
Activity 8.11 Class 9 Science Observation &
Explanation
The stone moves along a straight-line tangent to the
circular path.
When this activity is repeated, again and again, the stone
goes perpendicular to the string.
Why does it happen?
When an object moves in a circular path with uniform speed,
its motion is called uniform circular motion.
In a uniform circular motion, the direction of an object regularly
changes which results in a change in velocity(acceleration) and due to this, an outward
force is produced on the object(stone).
At this time the string remains in tension, when the
stone is released, it goes in a straight line.
Activity 8.11 Class 9 Science Conclusion
The stone in uniform motion in a circular path goes
perpendicular to the circular path.
