Activity 7.2 Class 9 Science Chapter 7

You are suggested to study NCERT activity 7.2 class 9 science chapter 7 explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on the activity 7.2 class 9 science.

Activity 7.2 Class 9 Science Aim

To study the difference between monocotyledons and dicotyledons.

Activity 7.1 Class 9 Science

   ·     Soak seeds of green gram, wheat, maize, peas, and tamarind, once they become tender. Try to split the seeds. Do all the seeds break into two nearly equal halves?

   ·     The seeds that do are the dicot seeds and seeds and the seeds that don’t are the monocot seeds.

   ·     Now take a look at the roots, leaves, and flowers of these plants. Do the leaves have parallel or reticulate venation?

   ·     How many petals are found in the flower of these plants?

   ·     Can you write down further characteristics of monocots and dicots on the basis of these observations?

Activity 7.2 Class 9 Science Observation

The wet seeds of green gram, peas, and tamarind break or split into two equal halves.

On the other hand, wheat and maize do not split into two halves.

Activity 7.2 Class 9 Science Explanation

Each half represents one cotyledon. This shows that green gram, pea, and tamarind belong to dicotyledons, and wheat and maize belong to monocotyledons.
