10.8 class 10 science.
You will find a complete explanation with a conclusion.
After studying
this activity 10.8 Class 10 Science Light- Reflection
and Refraction, you will be able to solve Questions of Chapter 10
Light- Reflection and Refraction.
Activity 10.8 Class 10 Science NCERT
·
Place a large shallow
bowl on a table and put a coin in it.
·
Move away slowly from the
bowl. Stop when the coin just disappears from your sight.
·
Ask a friend to pour
water gently into the bowl without disturbing the coin.
·
Keep looking for the coin
from your position. Does the coin become visible again from your position? How could
this happen?
Observation of activity 10.8 Class 10 Science
At first, the coin is visible but when we
move slowly from the bowl the coin become invisible.
When more water is poured into the bowl
without disturbing the coin, the coin becomes visible again from the same
position.
Explanation of activity 10.8 Class 10 Science
At first, we can see the coin because rays
coming from the coin get refracted and enter our eyes.
When we move away from the bowl, the refracted
rays do not enter our eyes, so we are not able to see the coin.
But when more water is poured into the bowl, the apparent position of the coin changes. This happens because on adding water the real depth of the coin increases. The apparent depth of the coin is equal to the real depth divided by the refractive index of water. So the apparent position of the coin rises and the coin becomes visible from the same position of our eyes.
Conclusion of activity 10.8 Class 10 Science
We can conclude through this activity that
with the increase in the real depth of a coin, the position of the coin raise and becomes
visible.
