Explain NCERT Class 10 Science Activity 10.12 Solution
In this article,
we will discuss activity
10.12 class 10 science.
You will find a complete explanation with a conclusion.
After studying
this activity 10.12 Class 10 Science Light- Reflection
and Refraction, you will be able to solve Questions of Chapter 10Light- Reflection and Refraction.
Activity 10.12 Class 10 Science NCERT
·
Take
a convex lens. Find its approximate focal length in a way described in activity
10.11.
·
Draw
five parallel lines using chalk on a long table such that the distance between
the successive lines is equal to the focal length of the lens.
·
Place
the lens o a lens stand. Place it on the central line such that the optical
centre of the lens is just over the line.
·
The two lines on either side of the lens corresponding to F and 2F of the lens
respectively. Mark the with appropriate letters such 2F1, F1, 2F2, and F2 respectively.
·
Place
a burning candle, far beyond 2F1to the left. Obtain a clear sharp
image on a screen on the opposite side of the lens.
·
Note
down the nature, position, and relative size of the image.
· Repeat
this activity by placing the object, at 2F1, between F1 and 2F1, at
F1, and between F1 and O. note down and tabulate your observations.
Finding the focal length of a convex lens
We can find the focal length of the convex lens
through activity 10.11. when the convex lens is placed facing the sun, a sharp
bright spot of light is obtained on the paper. This is the real image of the
sun and this position is the focus point (F) of the lens. We can get focal length by
measuring the distance of the image from the lens.
Observation and Explanation of Activity 10.12 Class 10 Science
We place a burning
candle on the left side of the convex lens at different positions and find the
images.
(i). Beyond 2F1 – Place the candle at this position and get image
on the other side of the lens.
Nature
of image – Real and inverted
Position
of image – between F2 and 2F2
Size
of image – diminished
(i). At 2F1 – Place the candle at this position and get image
on the other side of the lens.
Nature
of image – Real and
inverted
Position
of image – at 2F2
Size
of image – same size
(ii). Between 2F1 and
F1 – Place the
candle at this position and get image on the other side of the lens.
Nature
of image – Real and
inverted
Position
of image – Beyond 2F2
Size
of image – Enlarged
(iii). At F1 – Place the candle at this position and get image
on the other side of the lens.
Nature
of image – Real and inverted
Position
of image – At infinity
Size
of image –highly enlarged
(iv). Between F1 and
O – Place the candle
at this position and get image on the same side of the lens.
Nature
of image – Virtual and
erect
Position
of image – on the same
side of the lens as the object
Size
of image – Enlarged
Position of the object | Position of the image | Size of the image | Nature of the image |
---|---|---|---|
At infinity | At F2 | Highly diminished | Real and inverted |
Beyond 2F1 | between F2 and 2F2 | Diminished | Real and inverted |
At 2F1 | At 2F2 | Same size | Real and inverted |
Between 2F1 and F1 | Beyond 2F2 | Enlarged | Real and inverted |
At F1 | At infinity | highly enlarged | Real and inverted |
Between F1 and O | on the same side
of the lens as the object |
Enlarged | Virtual and erect |
Conclusion of Activity 10.12 Class 10 Science
We can determine the position, nature, and
size of an image formed by a convex lens when
the object is placed at different positions in front of the convex lens by this
