   ·     Hold a convex lens in your hand. Direct it towards the sun.

   ·     Focus the light from the sun on a sheet of paper. Obtain a sharp bright image of the sun.

   ·     Hold the paper and the lens in the same position for a while.   Keep observing the paper. What happened? Why? Recall your experience in activity 10.2


Caution: Do not look at the sun directly or through a lens while doing this activity or otherwise. You may damage your eyes if you do so.

We find a sharp point on the paper.

When we keep the convex lens directing towards the sun, the light rays coming from the sun incident parallel on the lens.


 When we move the paper back and forth, we find a sharp bright image of the sun obtained on the paper.


When we keep the paper and the lens in the same position for some time, the paper starts burning due to heat generated by the rays concentrated on the spot.


Conclusion of Activity 10.11 Class 10 Science


This activity 10.11  demonstrate that when a parallel beam of light from a distant object like the sun falls on a convex lens, a real, inverted, and point-sized image is formed at the focus point of the lens.
