Hold a convex lens in
your hand. Direct it towards the sun.

Focus the light from the
sun on a sheet of paper. Obtain a sharp bright image of the sun.

Hold the paper and the
lens in the same position for a while. Keep observing the paper. What happened? Why?

Explanation of Activity
10.11 Class 10 Science
When we keep the
convex
lens directing
towards the sun, the light rays coming from the sun incident parallel on the
lens.
When we move the paper back and forth, we find
a sharp bright image of the sun obtained on the paper.
When we keep the
paper and the lens in the same position for some time, the paper starts burning due
to heat generated by the rays concentrated on the spot.
