Activity 14.4 Class 10 Science
· Find out from your grandparents or other elders
i. How did they go to school?
ii. How did they get water for their daily needs when they were young?
iii. What means of entertainment did they use?
· Compare
the above answers with how you do these tasks now.
· Is
there a difference? If yes, in which case more energy from external sources is
consumed?
Explanation
After talking to our grandparents or elders, we find the following answers
i. In older days, there were not so many schools
as we have today. They would go to school by bicycle, by bullock carts or by
walking.
ii. They would get water from wells, rivers or
ponds. There were no municipal pipelines for water supply as we have today.
They used to go far to get water.
iii. They used to play cards, chess, or play in the
fields. at that time they would play drama, and music also.
iv. When we compare the tasks, they did and what we do today, we find-
· Nowadays we have many schools in our town or cities and we go to school by bus, car or personal vehicles.
· We get water from the municipal water supply at our home or we get water from boring using motor easily.
· We have so many means of entertainment like TV, music systems, internet, cinema halls, computers, laptops, radio, and mobile. Day by day technology is changing very fast.
Conclusion –
As we can see and understand that in the older days people were dependent on natural sources and consume less energy but we
today are consuming more energy.
