In this post, you will find NCERT Science Class 9 Chapter 1 Activity solutions. In Class 9 science chapter 1 matter in our surroundings consists of NCERT Activity 1.4 Class 9 Science Explanation with a conclusion. you can also go through Class 9 Maths Chapter 6- Lines and Angles.
NCERT Activity 1.4 Class 9 Science Explanation with a conclusion
You are suggested to study NCERT activity 1.4 class 9
science explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on
the activity 1.4 class 9 science.
Activity 1.4 Class 9 Science
· Take two glasses/ beakers filled with water.
· Put a drop of blue or red ink slowly add carefully along the sides of the first beaker and honey in the same way in the second beaker.
· Leave them undisturbed in your house or in a corner of the class
· Record your observations.
· What do you observe immediately after adding a drop of ink drop?
· What do you observe immediately after adding a drop of honey?
· How many hours or days does it take for the colour of ink to spread evenly throughout the water?
Observation of activity 1.4 class 9 science
The ink drop moves
downward and its particles spread in the water. The mixing of ink in water takes
about 2 to 3 minutes, while the honey drop sticks to the wall of the beaker and
moves very slowly. The mixing of honey in water takes an hour.
Explanation of activity 1.4 class 9 science
Particles of
matter move continuously. In solids particles only vibrate but gaseous particles
move fast in any direction.
So the speed of
particles of different matters is different because of attraction force between
particles is different.
The attraction
forces between particles of ink is weak so it moves rapidly but on the other
hand force of attraction between particles of honey is strong so they move
slowly.
This force of
attraction also affects the kinetic energy of particles.
Conclusion of activity 1.4 class 9 science
We can conclude that the stronger the force of attraction lower will be the speed
of the particles
Questions based on activity 1.4 class 9 science
1. How much time does ink take to spread in water?
Ans. – Ink takes 2 to 3 minutes to spread in water.
2. How much time does honey take to spread in water?
Ans. Honey takes one to two hours to spread in water.
3. What do you observe immediately after adding a drop of ink to water?
Ans. The drop of ink moves downward and starts spreading in the water.
4. What is the relation between the force of attraction and the speed of particles?
Ans. – The speed of particles is inversely proportional to the force of
attraction between them. If the force of attraction is stronger then the speed of particles
is lower.
