ethanol (absolute alcohol).

Discussion and Conclusion:
On the addition of a piece of sodium to absolute alcohol (100% alcohol), a brisk
effervescence due to the evolution of Hydrogen gas takes place. As Hydrogen is
a combustible gas, therefore, when a burning splinter is brought near it, it
burns with a ‘pop’ sound.
