NCERT Science Class 10 Chapter 7 Control and Coordination Activity solution
Activity – 7.2
Object: - Response of the plant to the direction of light
Material Required:
A cardboard open from one side, conical flask, water, wire- mesh, freshly
germinated seeds.
Procedure:
Fill the conical flask with water. Now cover the neck (mouth) of the flask with
wire -mesh. Keep a few freshly germinated seeds on wire mesh.
Keep this flask in a cardboard box in such a
manner that the open side of the box faces light coming from the ‘window’. Observe
after 3 days.
phototrophic movement of plants |
Observation: Shoots of the seedlings
bend towards light and roots bend away from the light. Now the flask is turned
so that the shoots are away from light and roots, are towards the light. If this
setup is observed after a couple of days then we will find that the roots and
shoots again change their direction of growth.
Inference:
It can be inferred that shoots always grow (move) towards the light. They are
positively phototrophic, while roots grow away from the light. Roots are
negatively phototrophic.
