Following is the definition of a noun
Definition of Noun: - These are called naming words. Name of person, things and place is known as ‘Noun’
परिभाषा: - इन्हें नामकरण शब्द कहते हैं। व्यक्ति,
चीजों और स्थान का नाम को संज्ञा ’के रूप में जाना जाता है|

i. Common Noun: - This noun refers to all persons, things, and places.
सभी व्यक्ति,वास्तु और स्थान आदि को एक साथ सम्मिलित रूप से जातिवाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं| examples – boy, cow, dog,
girl city, hospital, school, river, etc
ii. Proper Noun: - This noun refers to a particular person, thing, and place.
किसी विशेष एक व्यक्ति,वस्तु और स्थान के नाम को जातिवाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं|
examples-Mohan, John, Kareem, mala,
Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, Jaipur etc [
ü First letter of a Proper noun is written capital / जातिवाचक संज्ञा का पहला अक्षर हमेशा बड़ा लिखा जाता है |
ü Names of months, diseases are Proper nouns.माहों , बीमारियों के नाम व्यक्ति वाचक संज्ञा होते हैं|
a). Mohan plays cricket.
b). I gave Mohan a ball
In above both sentences – Mohan is a proper noun.ऊपर के दोनों वाक्योंMohan, जातिवाचक सज्ञा है |
व्यक्ति या वस्तुओं के समूह को समूहवाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं|

Army- a group of soldiers
Crowd – a group of people/persons
Class- group of students
Band- a group of musicians
Gang – a group of robbers
Herd – a group of cows

iv. Material noun: - This noun refers to any substance of which things are made of.
प्रकृति से प्राप्त होने वाले पदार्थ जिनसे कोई वस्तु बनाई जातीई है उसे पदार्थ वाचक संज्ञा कहते हैं|
examples- – copper, iron, water, wood, cotton, clay, gold, silkstone , jute, etc
v.Abstract Noun:- This noun refers to state, idea, experience, quality, this is not a physical thing. These nouns can’t be touched
यह संज्ञा गुण,अवस्था,दशा,अनुभव आदि का बोध कराती है |इन्हें हम छू नहीं सकते हैं|
examples –Happiness, sorrow, poverty, thirst, hunger
Honesty, kindness, sympathy
Childhood, boyhood,
Movement, fight
